Marlboro Projected and Actual Release
A projected release date is a forecast based on the sentence and credits known to the responsible agency. An actual release date records an event that has occurred. SCDC describes its projected field as the date it expects a current inmate to satisfy all incarcerated terms, based on sentence type and the current rate of work, education, and good-time credit. It may also function as a maxout date. Future dates can move. A past entry in the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search, or a formal release record, is much stronger proof that custody ended.
Pretrial detention works differently. A person held at Marlboro County Detention Center may await bond, a court order, case disposition, or transfer. There may be no fixed Marlboro County projected release date. Even a signed bond order does not prove the door-exit time because staff must process the order and check for other holds. A locally sentenced person may have a calculable term, but no public Marlboro policy on local good-time computation or weekend adjustment was found.
Facility type is the first filter. SCDC covers Evans Correctional Institution and other state prisons. Marlboro detention staff and the sentencing court cover a county-only stay. The BOP locator covers FCI Bennettsville. A transfer among those systems is not release to the community.
Find Marlboro Projected Release Dates
Begin with the facility or operator named on the latest reliable record. The ordinary SCDC Inmate Search is for people currently sentenced to and incarcerated with SCDC. It can show offenses, sentence data, institution, and a projected date. Its data reflects midnight of the prior day. It expressly excludes released people, county detainees, parolees, probationers, and other community-supervision cases. A blank current result is a clue, not proof of release.
Use a source chain that matches the custody type.
- Confirm whether the person is at Marlboro County Detention Center, Evans or another SCDC prison, or FCI Bennettsville.
- For a current state prisoner, search by SCDC number when possible and read the displayed Projected Release Date.
- For a county detainee, review the Marlboro Public Index and ask detention staff whether a release order exists and whether another hold applies.
- For a federal prisoner, use the BOP locator. Treat a future date as projected and a past date with Released or no location as completed BOP release.
- Check again near the date. After the event, use the SCDC released search, county release record, or BOP status to replace the estimate.
When the county jail record is needed, call the detention center at 843-479-5628 and ask whether the person remains physically in custody. If not, ask for release date and time, authority, and destination. A court disposition explains the legal basis, while the jail movement record shows the physical exit or transfer.
Note: The SCDC current search is not a historical released-person tool and does not cover a county-only Marlboro detention stay.
Marlboro State Release-Date Records
The two SCDC search paths must remain separate. The current inmate system displays a projected date for an eligible current state prisoner. The SCDC Released Inmate Search accepts a beginning and ending release date, county, and optional sex-offender filter. Results appear ten at a time and can be exported. That second tool supplies a completed release entry. Filtering County to Marlboro does not turn it into a Marlboro County Detention Center log. It remains a list of SCDC releases associated with the selected county.
| Record | Date meaning | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| SCDC current inmate detail | Projected date based on the current calculation | Excludes released people and county detainees |
| SCDC Released Inmate Search | Past SCDC release event/date | Not a county-jail bond-out log |
| Marlboro court record | Order, sentence, bond, or disposition date | Does not prove exact physical exit time |
| Marlboro jail record | Release or movement timestamp and authority | Must distinguish community release from transfer |
| BOP locator | Future projection or past federal release date | Does not prove freedom from another agency |
For an SCDC discrepancy, contact Inmate Records at 803-896-8531. Give the SCDC number and describe the displayed field precisely. Do not perform a simple calendar estimate and present it as the agency's date. Offense dates, statute versions, sentence aggregation, prior jail credit, and forfeited or restored credits can all affect the official calculation.
Marlboro Release Credits and Floors
South Carolina uses several different credit and eligibility rules. They should not be blended. Under South Carolina Code title 24, chapter 13, section 24-13-210 gives an eligible non-no-parole prisoner 20 days of good-conduct deduction for each month served. An eligible no-parole prisoner receives three days per month. Credit depends on faithful conduct and may be forfeited. Loss can make the projected date later, while a lawful restoration can move it again.
Section 24-13-230 governs earned work and education credit. Eligible non-no-parole sentences can receive up to one day per two days of productive duty or education. No-parole sentences use six days per month and a combined annual ceiling of 72 days, subject to exclusions. Good conduct and earned work or education are not the same credit. SCDC applies the rate and cap that fit the sentence and law.
Truth in sentencing is tied to sections 24-13-100 and 24-13-150. A qualifying no-parole offense generally cannot reach early release, discharge, or section 24-21-560 community supervision until at least 85 percent of the actual unsuspended prison term has been served. Credits may move a person from the full term toward that floor, but cannot reduce it below the floor. Section 24-13-125's 80 percent threshold concerns work-release eligibility. It does not establish community release.
- Good-time credit
- A conduct-based sentence deduction applied under the governing rule.
- Earned credit
- A deduction tied to qualifying work or education.
- Jail-time credit
- Eligible presentence or pretrial time certified toward the sentence.
- Maxout date
- The expected point when incarcerated terms are satisfied under the present calculation.
Note: Parole eligibility, an 80-percent work-release point, an 85-percent floor, and a projected maxout date are separate milestones.
Marlboro Release-Date Calculation Inputs
SCDC policy OP-21.09 explains a key local-to-state handoff. Eligible presentence or pretrial time is usually certified from county custody as jail-time credit. The agency derives the effective sentence start from the sentence and that certified credit. A correction to Marlboro County jail credit can shift later dates even if the judge's stated sentence length stays the same.
Next come concurrent or consecutive sentence structure, the law tied to each offense date, credit eligibility, disciplinary history, and later court changes. Concurrent sentences run at the same time to the extent the order allows. Consecutive sentences run one after another. A detainer may not change the mathematical end of one term, yet it can change whether the person goes to the community or directly to another agency. That is why the projected field and the final destination must be verified separately.
Parole eligibility has another clock. Section 24-21-610 generally uses one-third or a mandatory minimum for eligible violent offenses, one-fourth for other eligible terms, and a ten-year rule for certain life or terms over 40 years. Exclusions and offense-specific laws control. Eligibility permits Board review. It is not a promised release date, and good-time credit does not itself set parole eligibility.
Why Marlboro Release Dates Change
A date can change for legal, record, and conduct reasons. Some updates revise the sentence calculation. Others affect only the path after that term. Read the latest agency field and keep the date checked with any note or saved record.
| Factor | Possible effect | Verification source |
|---|---|---|
| Newly certified jail credit | Moves the effective start and later dates | SCDC Inmate Records and county certification |
| Amended or vacated sentence | Changes the controlling term | Sentencing court and SCDC |
| Consecutive sentence discovery | May extend the projected end | Court orders and SCDC calculation |
| Credit loss or restoration | Moves the projected date later or earlier | SCDC record |
| Work or education participation | Changes earned-credit accumulation | SCDC calculation |
| Detainer or another hold | May redirect exit to another agency | Holding and receiving agencies |
| Conditional parole action | May create, delay, or rescind a release path | Board result, SCDC, and SCDPPPS |
A future field should therefore be quoted as “SCDC currently projects,” followed by the date it was checked. Never state that the person will be released on that date. If another agency takes custody, one record may show release from SCDC while the person remains confined elsewhere.
Marlboro Release Calculator Limits
SCDC's public release-date calculator is an earliest-possible guideline. Its disclaimer assumes all available credits, excludes Youthful Offender Act calculations and other complex cases, and says it must not be used to calculate a person who has already been sentenced. That warning is crucial. A user-entered estimate cannot replace the projected date in an actual SCDC inmate detail.
For a sentenced state prisoner from Marlboro County or held at Evans, use the live inmate record and call SCDC Inmate Records about an error. For a county-only sentence, ask the detention center and sentencing court. No researched source established a Marlboro jail rule for local good time or weekend and holiday release adjustment. Importing the state-prison formula into a county case would create an unsupported date.
Confirm Marlboro Actual Release Dates
Near the projected day, recheck the system that owns the custody record. South Carolina VINE can provide release, transfer, sentence-completion, and court-ordered-release alerts for adult county and SCDC cases. Registration is useful, but an alert is still a reported status change. For a dated legal record, use the jail movement sheet, SCDC released entry, or BOP result as appropriate.
The Marlboro VINELink check instructions explain how to register against the correct agency record. After a county-to-SCDC transfer, re-register with the receiving record because the end of a county alert does not prove freedom. For exact release authority, time, or destination, request the originating record.
- Save the projected date and the date on which it was checked.
- Recheck the current source close to the expected day.
- Distinguish release to the community from transfer to SCDC, BOP, ICE, or another county.
- After the event, obtain the dated release entry or movement record.
Note: A completed release from one system may be followed by supervision or custody under another system in Marlboro County.
